Sierra Health Foundation's 2010 Regional Youth Development Conference

With a theme of Endless Possibilities: Hope, Passion, Purpose, this all-day conference promises to be a high-energy, fun opportunity for youth and adults to share and learn with one another. The following issue areas will frame the conference sessions: Youth Development, Education, Civic Engagement, Health/Lifestyle, Employment

If you're interested in presenting a workshop at this conference, download the Workshop Session Proposals form. Proposals are due June 18.

Board Positions for Youth M.O.V.E. National Are Now Open!

Youth M.O.V.E. National is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting applications for its Board of Directors! Do you have what it takes to be a part of something huge? Do you want the opportunity to be a leader in the youth movement? Do you want to see change made at a national level? We are looking for 5 motivated youth between the ages of 18 and 25 who have experience in leadership roles, familiarity with different youth-serving systems and a passion for youth voice. Fundraising knowledge is also a plus. As a Youth M.O.V.E. Board Member, you will be entitled to networking benefits including meeting new people in the field, seeing new places and communities around the country, and traveling to board meetings at various conferences twice a year. In addition, the experience and knowledge that you gain and earn by being a board member goes a long way on your resume. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please fill out the attached application and send it back to Youth M.O.V.E. National no later than July 1st.

Youth-led Public Awareness Campaign

The National Crime Prevention Council and the National Center for Victims of Crime are seeking applicants for the Under served Teen Victims Initiative (UTVI) project.  The UTVI project, supported by a grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, seeks to raise awareness about teen victimization and services that can help teen victims in under served populations and to provide resources to victim service providers so they can better reach under served populations of teens.  To view the application and learn more details about UTVI, visit the NCPC website.

Sir Francis Drake High School Launches Disability Awareness Week

 

Promoting disability awareness (San Anselmo, CA) – Sir Francis Drake High School is launching its first Disability Awareness Week.  The week will expose and immerse high school students in disability issues and culture.  This student-directed project is being produced by the school’s Peer Resource program and will take place on the week of March 8th – 12th

 

During the week students will participate in a variety of activities such as a wheelchair basketball game hosted by Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Programs (BORP) and a disability themed movie night.

 

Members of the disability rights community will present a lesson on disability history and culture to students in their social studies classes.  The week will culminate with an all school assembly in which guest speaker, Eli Gelardin, Executive Director of the Marin Center for Independent Living, will speak about his experience growing up with a disability in the Marin community. Within this assembly, there will be a performance by Axis Dance Company, a professional dance company comprised of dancers with disabilities.
